baked vanilla malt donuts

I love donuts. More specifically, I love old fashioned donuts. And when I can't have an old fashioned i'm all about cake over yeast. I really really wanted an old fashioned donut this morning and, quickly x-ing the idea of going to get one, I realized the second best idea was making my own! I mean, I feel like there is no downside to owning your own donut pan and being able to bake up your own donuts on a whim so, appropriately, I went to Target and bought myself one. Well, the Internet proved no success of a baked old fashioned donut, and god knows I was not going to fry anything at home, so the next best thing? A good ole' cake donut. I came across this recipe for baked sour cream donuts on The Semisweet Sisters  and all I needed was a donut pan. Fast forward an hour and I was at home mixing up my own version with malt powder *after realizing how closely the recipe resembled the vanilla bean malt bundt cake my mom and I had made for my birthday*, and boo-yah homemade donuts!

Baked Vanilla Malt Donuts
*adapted from The SemiSweet Sisters Baked Sour Cream Donuts
1/2 cup sour cream
1 large egg
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup of flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup malt powder

Glaze:
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/4 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp malt powder

What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a bowl, cream together sour cream, egg, sugar, and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and malt powder and mix to combine. Prepare donut pan with cooking spray or oil and fill with batter. *Make sure not to fill more than 3/4 full or the batter will spread over the hole while baking-if the hole does close over, just use a knife to cut the hole back out once they have cooled.
Once donuts have cooled, mix together ingredients for glaze, adding a little more powdered sugar or milk until it is desired consistency. Dip donuts one-by-one, coating both sides, and set on a wire rack to dry. Make sure to place paper towels or wax paper under your rack as some glaze will drip off the donuts.
